“Rīgas satiksme” gets new “Solaris Urbino” buses
“Rīgas satiksme” has received the most up-to-date buses from the “Solaris Urbino” series (see the photo). It is scheduled that 70 buses will be gradually delivered until the end of the year. As a result, only low-floor buses will be running in Riga.
The new buses are being delivered in accordance with the agreement signed in 2013, which provides for the purchase of 175 buses. After the delivery of the above 70 buses, their total number will reach 140, and the remaining 35 buses will be delivered until 2019.
Compared to the previously delivered buses, the new ones have several sockets for recharging electronic devices. The new buses, as well as those which will be delivered later, have an upgraded body, which is reflected in the bus design. The manufacturer has developed a new concept of the body frame, which made the bus of the body lighter. These improvements made the bus more economical, as fuel consumption has decreased.
Equipment of the new buses: electromechanically driven movable platform (for disabled persons), heating, aeration and air conditioning system, integrated on-board information system, a set of operational materials and spare parts for a distance of 150 000 km, a set of special tools. The additional equipment includes fire-extinguishing equipment in the engine’s chamber, driving dynamics regulation system, interior LCD monitors and a system of transmitting information and communications.
Representatives of manufacturer “Solaris Bus&Coach” are now making necessary arrangements at the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD). After that, the experts of the manufacturer and “Rīgas satiksme” will test the buses before putting them into operation. Only after completing these activities/measures, the new buses will be allowed to participate in the traffic and carry passengers.
“Rīgas satiksme” operates 55 bus routes and carries about 6 million passengers per month on the average. The total number of buses of different types being at the disposal of “Rīgas satiksme” reaches 400.
